How to Prepare for Your Photo Shoot
A guide to help you prepare for your shoot with simple tips and recommendations.
Upon Booking
Get Excited!
You did it! You booked a photo shoot - something just for you that will most definitely increase your self-esteem, energy, and if you’re in business, your income! Tell your friends, think about what products you may want in your home, and try to imagine how incredible you’ll look and feel after your shoot.
Start Perusing Your Closet.
We’ll discuss wardrobe in detail during your planning consultation, but it’s never too early to start gathering ideas for what to wear during your photo shoot. Some of these decisions will be dependent on what style of shoot you are looking for, but you can get some basic tips in this Wardrobe Selection Guide and Color Theory article.
Schedule Those Appointments.
Nails, Hair. Spray Tan. Aestitician magic. While it’s not the time to try something new (I once had a client try a new haircut or color filler before a shoot, not like their new do and needed to reschedule), now is the time to get on the calendar for any salon appointment to make sure everything is refreshed and camera-ready.
Trust That I’ve Got You.
I’ve been doing this. along time. Once you book, you have a few things you’re responsible for - mostly bringing clothes and taking impeccable care of yourself leading up to the shoot. However, after that, once you’ve followed this guide and arrived at the studio, know that I’ll take it from there. If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to call, text, or email me.
Book your nail appointment a few days prior to the shoot and stick with neutral colors unless you’re a bold color or bright red nail kind of girl.

Keep taking time for yourself
until you are you again.”

A Week Before Your Shoot.
Start Drinking Extra Water.
While this is always a good idea, if this isn’t a top priority for you already, let’s kick this habit up a notch. You’ll notice the fresh glow in your photos that you only get when drinking plenty of water.
Stretch Daily.
If you don’t already have a routine of stretching, yoga, or daily exercise, this one will keep you loose for the shoot and leave you less sore afterward. Just a few minutes will help you to get into the fun, but awkward poses I’ll direct you in to.
Get Your Beauty Rest.
Another good reminder for every night, sometimes (Ok, most nights) it’s hard to get in that full 8 hours of sleep. If possible, aim for getting a full night’s rest the night before your shoot to be sure you’re well rested and energized!
Get Excited, But Don’t Stress.
Even if you go out the night before the shoot, drink red wine all evening, and forget all of your clothes when arriving at the studio - I will STILL be able to take an impressive set of photos that will knock your socks off. Do your best to follow the tips in this guide, but do it with grace and knowing that you’re doing your best.
Don’t try anything new right beforehand. Instead, make sure you apply your skincare routine religiously leading up to your shoot.
